We make lots of variations on this....sometimes we use coconut milk other times 1% milk (once we did half and half. really. really. good). We even used greek yogurt once and I told him it was a frozen yogurt smoothie. I prefer it with milk though.
Sometimes we throw in peanuts vs. almonds. Today is the first time I added oats. And usually I add chia seed, but Tanner had a new friend over today, and I didn't want to scare him off. = )
As for the amounts....I never measure. I just throw stuff in. Plus or minus to taste. If I were to guess....maybe 1 1/2c milk, handful of oats, handful of almonds, 4t cocoa, pinch of sea salt (if you use roasted salted nuts, omit the salt), pinch of cinnamon, dates and/or agave to taste and ice to the consistency you like. Just be sure to take the pits out of the dates. I forgot once. Wow. Even my vita-mix couldn't hack that.
If there's extra shake left...throw it in popsicle molds. My kids love those too.

Dude, would you come out with a cookbook? Every time you post something it sounds amazing...delicious, healthy, modern, everything I love. Thanks for sharing! You're so talented, and knowledgable.
Sounds so yummy!! I want to try that! love you!!!
mmm sounds awesome. I will have to try!!! Love you!
Thanks for adding the measurements, because I really had no idea what to "guesstimate". You're so inspiring with your snacks and foods you eat. You really keep at it. I get inspired and make something different, and often something will stick, but then I fall back into my old ways a bit. Back and forth and on and off again. It seems like you are constant. Greg and Pat made that quinoa salad you made, but with apricots and walnuts, feta. I've made quinoa salads I liked before, but the lemon dressing- everything was so light and YUMMY. Now it's apart of our diet. Thanks to you! We really need to get on the phone and swap recipes. I'm worried I only have one or two to offer you. Actually, that may not be true when it comes to the ethnic stuff. I would have at least a few. But really, I've been meaning to get on the phone with you for at least 2 months, but things have been too crazy. Next week, for sure. We need to seriously swap.
I've got a good Lo Mein, Tikka Masala, Kung Pao Shrimp, and Sesame Noodles. All simple and we never make them very spicy. We can't handle the spice. Just to tempt you.
Sounds yummy and is a good for you treat for everyone. You are so clever. Love to all
I wanted Mom to get a vita mix so bad just for this smoothie. It is so so yummy. Definitely my favorite smoothie. Thanks for making it up! Love you!
A cookbook is a great idea! Last year before you stopped posting for a while you posted about a sweet potato apple soup. I'm very interested in that recipe too. Do you remember it? Could you post it?
